Consumer Electronics PR and Publicity
3M Pocket Projectors:
Creating Big Buzz for a Miniature Projector
How do you unveil an entirely new category of consumer electronics? That was the question 3M posed to Hunter PR before introducing the world to “pico projection.” Beginning with the 2008 debut of 3M’s first-generation MPro110 pocket projector Hunter PR worked to create buzz around this emerging technology through a multi-faceted program of aggressive media relations and innovative consumer promotions. Hunter PR generated more than 200 million media impressions - and countless more consumer engagements - across a three-generation cycle of products. Along the way, Hunter PR worked with 3M to secure industry accolades including the “Grand Award” in Popular Science’s “Best of What’s New” awards, the Thomas Edison Award for Innovation, PC World’s “Best New Products” and the Projector Central “Highly Rated” recognition. Hunter PR parlayed this recognition into high-value, national media such as including the Ellen DeGeneres Show, TODAY Show, Extra!, CNN, CNBC, FOX Business, and more. In earnings reports to investors, 3M’s Chief Financial Officer cited public relations as a key driver of sales growth for 3M Mobile Projection Technology.
